How It Works
Enter your cat’s age in years — whole numbers or decimals like 0.5 for six months — and the calculator instantly shows the human year equivalent and the current life stage.
The conversion follows the widely accepted veterinary scale: the first year of a cat’s life is the most developmental, equivalent to 15 human years. The second year adds another 9. After that, each feline year is roughly equal to 4 human years.
Cat Life Stages
| Life Stage | Cat’s Age | Human Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Kitten | Under 1 year | Under 15 years |
| Junior | 1–2 years | 15–24 years |
| Adult | 3–6 years | 28–40 years |
| Mature | 7–10 years | 44–56 years |
| Senior | 11–14 years | 60–72 years |
| Geriatric | 15+ years | 76+ years |
Why Life Stage Matters
Knowing your cat’s life stage helps you give them the right care:
- Kitten — rapid growth, high energy, vaccination schedule important
- Junior — still developing, may benefit from neutering if not already done
- Adult — generally healthy and stable; annual vet check-ups recommended
- Mature — watch for early signs of weight gain or dental issues
- Senior — twice-yearly vet visits advised; kidney and thyroid checks
- Geriatric — special diet, comfort, and pain management become priorities
